The puffin colony on Haystack Rock is touted as the most easily viewable on the West Coast. There just is not the forage fish available that the species needs to thrive and grow its numbers.

Slow Start to Spring

10,000 Birds

Even in the north of the country we can expect three or four species to arrive by the end of the month, generally Sandwich Tern, Northern Wheatear, Sand Martins and the first singing Chiffchaffs. Others weren’t so lucky with a few tide-line corpses found of species such as Long-eared Owl. Along with these were many Guillemots.
