Another cool fact was learning that the Barn Swallows has started to breed in South America since the 80s. This is quite a remarkable fact if one thinks that this is the only (and first to do this) migratory bird to change its breeding and migratory habits. Chicks in nest in Wyoming. These birds capitalize on a quick breeding season and usually have young out by mid-July in most cases. Most REAL montane species like this finch are declining in overall population. Their range of breeding is literally only very southern Wyoming to very northern New Mexico. Cheers and Good Birding!

There were birders from a wide cross-section of the United States: Colorado, Ohio, Idaho, Iowa, Wyoming, Washington State, Pennsylvania, New York State, New Jersey, California, Texas, Florida. Betty’s Bay was also a great place to see all of South Africa’s cormorant species, including the endangered Bank Cormorant.

The species was extinct, a vanished part of the vanishing prairie — and not for the first time. In the 1950s the species was unofficially regarded as extinct by most biologists, a small part lost in the general tumble and disarray of the entire ecosystem they’d inhabited. You couldn’t see it. But the ferrets kept dying.

Shawn Billerman is a graduate student at the University of Wyoming studying birds, though his degree will likely use fancier words than that. One of the more interesting aspects (in my opinion) of breeding in birds is their mating strategy. of all bird species, is polyandry. He is a New Yorker, a great birder, and a nice guy.
