What I do remember is Irv Weinstein, Buffalo’s favorite news guy. Costa Rica is just the half way point, I’m glad to see them, happy to see Red-eyed Vireos finding food in protected forests. He was well liked, was part of our community and seeing him on the TV screen was an essential piece of growing up in 80s WNY.

Today, the camas fields rest protected in the vast bosom of the Clearwater National Forest. They can be boiled or roasted like potatoes, and they can also be pounded into a flour. That was then. Depending on a visitor’s luck, one can see moose and wolves, hear Boreal Owls or Townsend’s Warblers.
