The sun rises over the village of Chrysochorafa, by Kerkini Lake in the north of Greece, not far from the triple border with Bulgaria and FYRO Macedonia. Magical“ is one of those words that suffer from overuse and I usually avoid it – but in this case, I cannot think of a better description. With a lot of effort, I IDd 8 species.

B is for Bunting

Only four species breed in Britain – the Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting, Corn Bunting and Cirl Bunting, but there are rather more in Europe, of which my favourite is the Black-headed Bunting. This is a Balkan special, and a bird I know well from Greece, Bulgaria and Cyprus. A singing Black-headed Bunting.
