I live in upstate New York where only one of these two species occurs. and the species name will appear. In 2007 Jory became the "least consistent birder" to see 300 birds in New York State in one year. I still prefer to use the field markings as the decider between the species. But not while flying.

Here is another photo of this beautiful species. Winter Hits New York City Desert Finch in Arkansas (!?!?!) He is a BirdLife Species Champion and contributes to several other conservation efforts, being the webmaster for Wintu Audubon Society and most recently, the habitat manager for the Burrowing Owl Conservation Network.
