The one exception is Punta Cana Resort and Club in the Dominican Republic. On the grounds, Punta Cana has preserved a 1,500 acre Ecological Park that is an excellent place to view the local endemic bird species and enjoy nature. This is not a birding lodge. Far from it. Within its 400 pages, the Birds of the West Indies covers 712 species, 550 of them regularly occurring and 190 of those endemic to the region, many of them to single islands. Furthermore, there are six families confined to the Greater Antilles. If a species is monotypic, this is clearly stated.
