The Nikon’s BATV crew flew in to Paramaribo where we were graciously hosted at the luxurious Hotel Krasnapolsky for a night so that we could experience the culture and fun of the capital city. I had my first swim with Inshore Bottlenose Dolphins in Northland’s Bay of Islands back in 2000, and it was a tripy experience. We set out with Black Cat Cruises to see these diminutive dolphins and to have a swim with them. So if you are after a unique dolphin experience you could do worse than this New Zealand speciality.

I can speak from experience that this place should only be accessed by a 4 x 4 vehicle. On one of my two trips to Haroni we were driving along the road when we came across a Serval, a medium-sized and beautifully marked cat. The cat brazenly approached our vehicle to within 6 feet of us hoping for an easy meal.

If the crows can distinguish between UCA and HCA, they should treat UCA related events with caution, but be more indifferent to events caused by a HCA, unless of course the HCA is a cat. My first experience was with a nesting pair, one bird was out at the time and the other was comfortably sitting quite low in the nest. I saw it gaze intently at our cat who has a perch at the same window. Now, although I have seen this species several times before, we have a unique relationship. I saw it regurgitate a pellet.

I recorded the song, which Merlin app identified as a Skylark’s, but I had enough experience to know better: it turned out to be a Greater Short-toed Lark. Basically, Porto Lagos is a hamlet built, you got it, around a harbour, on an isthmus separating Lake Vistonida (more about it later) from the Aegean Sea. Now, I am done.
