One massively negative aspect of birding Tybee Island is the sheer volume of feral cats and outdoor cats. It is clear that the trap-neuter-release efforts are doomed to failure, as they always are, and I saw three obviously pregnant cats in my short time there. They are everywhere! It didn’t get any.

Some time ago a neighborhood stray cat came to the yard to have her kittens. This little mama cat was super smart and found her way into the hot tub, and here are her little kittens snuggled up in a flower pot. Sadly, shelters and rescues are full of cats and are already full. They sure are cute though, aren’t they?

But my stance is also categorized under Gray Matters because, in my perfect world, we wouldn't be spaying or neutering anybody. How contradictory is that? So mikey, I agree with you in theory.

I received a call yesterday from a woman who started a coalition for homeless cats. She said her Trapper Man could go to the Project Treadstone site--last night and this morning--and trap up to 10 cats that she would bring to Pahokee. She has brought over a dozen cats there in just two weeks, 11 of whom were pregnant.

Quantico Military Base is really behaving cruelly when it comes to the feral cats on its base. Frizzell explained that a large population of feral cats is ultimately detrimental to the overall environmental health of the base, its native species and ecosystems. Case in point: some of my family members have become active with feral cat colony organizations. It started with donation requests for spay and neutering cats but then quickly transferred to a trap, neuter and release organization.
