Injured wildlife are not the most cooperative of patients. Wildlife rehabilitators have an arsenal of equipment and techniques we use to protect ourselves. It was playing with a cat toy and managed to get a string wrapped around its foot, and when I went to untangle him he went into crazy attack mode and bit my wrist.
