The court upheld regulations permitting pig and calf confinement, the transport of ill and injured cattle, and force molting of birds. Many states exempt routine practices from their cruelty code, and the precedent-setting ruling will be used in the nationwide campaign against controversial practices.

Sadly, he couldn’t (or wouldn’t) so I had to content myself with just Burrowing Owls , Monk Parakeets , Loggerhead Shrikes , and Cattle Egrets. Sure, I might have said that I wanted to see Burrowing Owls but I figured that Carlos would manage to combine them with another bird I needed to check off my list.

The horse slaughter industry in the United States has nothing to do with feeding hungry people and everything to do with animal cruelty. They are often crammed into trucks built for cattle and pigs and subjected to starvation, exposure and abuse. The transport and subsequent slaughter of these animals is brutal.

Compassionate consumers can take a stand against this cruelty by choosing vegan options. The same goes for pigs and cattle that are exploited and forced to live in substandard conditions. Chickens deserve to live humanely. That’s the least farmers can do. Congratulations to California for being so compassionate and leading the way.

Besides depleting the ocean’s supply of fish for those animals normally feeding on them, the factory farming of cattle, pigs and chickens uses excessive water and pollutes our land. The number of chickens, turkeys, pigs, cattle and other animals raised and slaughtered in the United States has been growing steadily for decades.
