There were several ducks around the water body and they included Pacific Black Ducks , Plumed Whistling-Ducks and Wandering Whistling-Ducks. The egret family were represented by the Great Egrets , Intermediate Egrets and a lone Cattle Egret. Ducks, Ibis and Egrets. Ducks, Ibis and Egrets.
There was a large raft of hundreds of American Coot , an American White Pelican and lots of duck species. I will not name all ducks, but Bufflehead and Canvasback were lifers so they deserve a call-out. Sandpipers up in the air and a general panic among the coots and ducks. The birds warmed us too.
Scores of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks circled overhead, these vocal ducks are often hunted illegally here so it was refreshing to see so many. And while all three of our common Egrets ( Great , Snowy , and Cattle ) are to be seen everywhere you look, only the American White Pelicans are as common as the Shovelers and Pintails. Highlights there was a Garganey , 75+ Cattle Egret , 10 Purple Heron , 5+ Penduline Tit , 2 Night Heron , a Great Reed Warbler , and a Water Rail. As it was, we were only able to add Black-headed Gull for gull species there, along with Red-throated Pipit and Ferruginous Duck.
