In an unhurried half-day of birding, we racked up over 90 species, including killers like Denham’s Bustard , Northern Carmine-throated Bee-eater , and Shelley’s Rufous Sparrow. The raptors exceeded expectations in both quantity and quality, with lots of vultures, eagles, and a magnificent Beaudouin’s Snake-Eagle.

A vast congregation of Bald Eagles kept watch over a herd of cattle about to calve, up to seven in a single tree — no doubt awaiting delicious placentas. A second Prairie Falcon just up the road – this one a young male – gave even better, closer looks. It was truly a fantastic bird-of-prey day.

We started our Singapore bird list at Pasir Ris and leaving the train station we were delighted to see several Cattle Egrets on the grass and several photographers. There are White-bellied Sea Eagles in the area and it is likely their nest. We were soon in Pasir Ris Town Park and observing a huge variety of birds. Common Sandpiper.
In fact, the very first person to guess, Nick , managed to get the third quiz picture correct by calling it a Bald Eagle. Of course, that was the easiest of the three because though the bird in the image is captive, a bird that was injured and can’t be returned to the wild, Bald Eagles do occur regularly and naturally in Queens.
It was a gift to be reacquainted with trusty birds of winter like American Tree Sparrow , Dark-eyed Junco , Black-capped Chickadee , along with less reliable ones like Wild Turkey , a Red-necked Grebe bobbing up and down on the harsh waters of Lake Ontario, and a trio of Harlequin Ducks riding the rapids above the falls.

There was a Short-toed Eagle ahead, taking flight to be replaced by another ST Eagle. A few Lesser Kestrels by the dyke wall, then a Black-eared Wheatear at some cattle fencing.
