How else can I describe two days at Cerro Montezuma in Colombia. Cerro Montezuma or Montezuma Peak lies within Tatama National Park in Colombia’s Western Cordillera. Several generations of Leopoldina’s family operate the lodge, serving delicious food and hospitality in a clean, comfortable environment.

For once, I was pleased to see our omnipresent local Ring-billed Gulls this weekend, since I realized I didn’t see a single larid while in Colombia. Corey greatly enjoyed his weekend in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of upstate New York with family and friends. What was your best bird of the weekend?

This bird, of the Turdus family, can be found on the western slopes of Ecuador and Colombia. This was a very interesting experience with quick breaths, speeding heartbeats, and a few tense moments of not being able to photograph the bird due to fog.

Looking at a photo of a dozen birders on a Colombia tour, it stroke me that they were either using binoculars or cameras. Yet, going through the pages of a book is an irreplaceable experience. Talking of eBird, why don’t they show users the list of the bird families they observed? Not a single one was using a scope.
