Kelly Preheim was talking about the large numbers of Snowy Owls on the nearby National Wildlife Refuge. The second responded as I would- with immediate concern and compassion. Ben Lizdas at Eagle Optics provided immediate assurance that they would do something. I asked her to keep me appraised of her progress.

Sometimes it is too late, as they are deceased and Brahminy Kites and White-bellied Sea-Eagles usually take advantage of the situation. The Snow Geese at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge will soon be winging their way north, so he spent some quality time with them, his best birds of the weekend. Blue Tailed BeeEater, White Bellied Sea Eagle, White Rumped Shama were other ones I particularly enjoyed. Enjoy the details and proof here. What was your best bird of the weekend?

In fact, the very first person to guess, Nick , managed to get the third quiz picture correct by calling it a Bald Eagle. Of course, that was the easiest of the three because though the bird in the image is captive, a bird that was injured and can’t be returned to the wild, Bald Eagles do occur regularly and naturally in Queens.

of Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Jon Gassett has indicated that if enough people write in protest, the proposed hunting season–due to start this December– will be reconsidered. Hunting is on a steady downturn, and nonconsumptive wildlife pursuits are on a tremendous upswing. We can fight them back in Kentucky, too.
