After a closer look I realized it wasn’t a blueberry at all, but a BIG black spider!

In December, she had serious trouble breathing so we rushed her to the emergency vet again. We brought her home and on New Year's Day (of course!) It was a horrible night, but she made it through the night and recovered at our regular vet's. Then in April 2008, we were told she had terminal cancer.

Of course, that also rendered her defective and she was therefore immediately "discarded." Then there's her hideous gum disease that has left her few remaining teeth in bad shape but without much to do for them (the vets won't touch them). We spent the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005 getting fired by vet after vet.

And after a $250 vet trip it became this--. Charles Hobson Booger, III has been to I believe 4 vets (some several times) and hasn't been able to use his back right leg for 5 months (and yes, atrophy has set in). And of course, Emily is just as opinionated and irritable as ever, and still shows no sign of dying from her FIP.

When the clock ticked over to business hours, it occurred to me to call my vet’s office, and they were able to give me the current phone number of a wildlife rehabilitator — but it was too late. Animal Control was on the way. I have only praise for the woman from Animal Control.

Turns out the founder of TRC and many the vets who worked in clinic were falconers as well. Of course I can’t speak for every falconer out there. Then I started volunteering at The Raptor Center to give educational programs with live birds of prey and my trainer was a master falconer. I learned that I knew nothing of falconry.

The woman from the coalition knows and respects the vets at Pahokee, which of course isn't as good as my own vet being on the case, but I'm sure it'll all work out fine. She has brought over a dozen cats there in just two weeks, 11 of whom were pregnant. Can you imagine? Eleven times even one adds to the problem!
