Last but not least, there are only two or three conformed sightings of this northern species, rare in Serbia. Southern Europe’s Herring become a full species, the Yellow-legged Gull Larus cachinnans. How to tell these two apart (and how to tell them that they are now separate species and are not supposed to hybridise)?

Birding the Cyclades: My my, how can I resist you?

Nick finds a bird-shaped protrusion at the top of the rock – Black-eared Wheatear , not exactly a species I expect to observe from a boat deck. Tha dropping numbers are suspected in Greece and Croatia, and confirmed in Italy, France and Malta. The Sun already sets and I haven’t seen a new species in a while.

Birds and football! What a combination!

On June 12th, FIFA’s Football World Cup will kick off in Brazil, with the home side hosting Croatia for the opening match in Sao Paulo. Open from dawn to dusk 7 days a week, it has an eBird hotspot list of 79 species from 16 submissions. It has an eBird score of 197 species from 25 checklists. Timings are 08.00 ‘til 17.00.
