I received an e-mail from the well-meaning Wendy at Compassion in World Farming (which I find an odd combination of words) regarding Egypt's pig cull and asking me to send my protest to the Egyptian Government. Yes, I sent the protest. We call it something else--not a cull--but how are culls all that different?

The animals themselves identified as “civilised” and started a hunger strike in protest. Nowadays, the numbers are being controlled through culling. The grazers are glorified farm animals, but they have been labelled by some very irresponsible people as “wild”. Actually, no, they just starved to death for lack of care. It was awful.

What’s even more frustrating is when animal rights people learn of plans to cull nonnative species. This makes perfect sense. The logic of this is ridiculous.
