It also summarizes the vagrancy status of every bird family in the whole wide world, which makes it fun to read as well as superbly educational. But it’s a very fluid definition, as the book makes very clear. The Family Accounts are the fun part of the book. Is the ship-assisted vagrant a ‘true’ vagrant?

I had neither seen before nor heard of an example of a leucistic* Ruddy Duck but a quick Google search let me know that this is definitely not the first (not surprisingly). Hes only been birding since 2005 but has garnered a respectable life list by birding whenever he wasnt working as a union representative or spending time with his family.

Jan Axel also wants to see them all but he managed to cut his wish list down to one, oddly, the same bird that Duncan picked, the Kinglet Calyptura : The Brazilian bird I would most like to see is… ALL OF THEM, so I definitively need that book. However if I had to choose one bird to see in Brazil it would be a Sickle-Winged Nightjar.

If I was an ornithologist aiming for a grant, I would now definitely highlight the need for more research on this topic. Barn Swallows are a bit unhappy with their image as restless aerial hunters and would like to gain a more stately and dignified profile. Accessorizing for birds.
