Mistletoebird family

10,000 Birds

The female Mistletoebird has moved out of the nest to help feed the chicks and the male Mistletoebird is definitely contributing to a large extent. Here are some of the photos that I have taken over recent days of the Mistletoebird family. The feeding of the two Mistletoebird chicks has been relentless over the past week.

Birds of a Feather – A Fun, Family-Friendly Card Game

10,000 Birds

Each player plays a card and can count any species from the same habitat group as the card played. “Ace birds” are worth two points and if you see all seven species from a habitat group you get three bonus points. I put up $35 so I could get two sets: one to keep and one to give as a present to an undetermined person.

Yellow-billed Spoonbills breeding

10,000 Birds

One bird species that we occasionally observe around Broome is the Yellow-billed Spoonbill, but we had not seen one for a few years until recently. We soon observed several bird species and then a Yellow-billed Spoonbill flew overhead. Not only is it a bird species we rarely encounter, but we had never found a breeding colony before.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Fourth of May 2014)

10,000 Birds

While I saw some pretty special species this weekend, the most special was the Gray Catbird because my sweet 7-year niece totally got into finding one; I think I’ve found the next generation birder in the family! But if you’re eager to share the spoils of your recent avian adventures, let the bird bragging commence!
