Many are familiar with dissecting owl pellets, but several birds will caste a pellet including hawks, eagles, gulls, herons and heck, I once witnessed a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher hack up a small one. Oehlenschlager apologized that he couldn’t say the exact species of bat. Birds will barf them back up out of their mouths.

Interestingly, the research found that both species primarily spend their time in trees (83% and 81%) and have the same main food source, hymenopterans (25% each, and no, I have no idea what hymenopterans are either – presumably something with wings). When you catch a stringer in the act, first try to figure out what they are hearing/looking act that makes them think a bird is a certain species. After you have collected their mistakes, dissect them. After the dissection is complete, you then unleash a tidal wave of evidence that proves their strung rarity has been misidentified.
