The SPCA does some amazing work on behalf of our animal friends all over the globe. Imagine being a soldier on the battlefield and finding comfort and friendship in a dog. Then imagine knowing that you will have to leave that dog behind, in awful conditions. We think this is an amazing mission!

they are sending professional photographer Nanette Martin to take pictures of shelter pets at the Virginia Beach SPCA. The Bowl by Bowl goal for October is to donate 12,500 bowls of food to shelter cats and dogs. Each year these groups combined, rescue and find homes for over 2,000 abandoned Southland dogs and cats, animals that most likely would otherwise have lost their lives. An animal rights group claims the dogs were killed inhumanely by an outdoor adventure company and thrown into a mass grave. Local media reports say business slumped after the 2010 Winter Olympics and the dogs were no longer needed. The company could not be reached for comment.

Authorities found the dog, a German shepherd mix named Bruce, in a small crate on March 18. Oh, and when they shut the electricity off, she moved into a hotel room without the dog. I hope this woman rots in jail, but I doubt that will happen in Texas.

This is why the SPCA says that more dogs are reported missing during the winter. This is because in the cold, pets are more likely to lose their scent and get lost—not to mention that when the area is covered in snow, it will appear unfamiliar to your pet.
