The AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) amended several AVMA policies addressing a range of veterinary-related issues, , from raw diets for dogs and cats, to dog and cat population management, to animal loss support services, and safe, noncommercial transport of pets in motor vehicles, during its regular winter session, held January 5-6 in Chicago in conjunction (..)
These policies deal with noncommercial transportation of pets, management of dog and cat populations, and raw pet food diets, among other issues. The AVMA House of Delegates, during its regular winter session, being held January 5-6, 2024, in Chicago, will vote on six resolutions that would amend AVMA policies.
There are, however, a number of comfy, stylish carry cases on the market which make transporting your feline friend a little easier. Pet crates are suitable for both cats and dogs and give your cat plenty of room whilst you travel. Deluxe style.
Before 2008, only one person had been incarcerated for dog fighting in Georgia. Considering the state had one of the weakest dog-fighting laws in the nation, that's no compliment. But since a new and tougher dog fighting law was passed in May 2008, multiple arrests have been made, with more on the horizon.
Because “duck, duck, goose” is a little too wintry (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) for a post written in the dog days of August. Twenty-five Puerto Rican Parrots are being groomed to be pioneers: The Critcally Endangered birds have been transported from existing colonies to the Maricao State Forest.
In the main section, Birdwatching Countries of Southeast Asia, each set of hotspots starts with a two to three-page country intro focusing on climate, access & transportation, health & safety, and the birdwatching highlights; including a basic map showing the main cities, the river systems and the birding hotspots.
These dog handlers are employed to retrieve the shot birds on a shooting day on the moor. These include game dealers, accommodation providers, equipment suppliers, catering establishments and transport operators, often based in remote rural locations who depend on grouse shooting as the main economic driver outside the tourist season.
Imagine being a soldier on the battlefield and finding comfort and friendship in a dog. Then imagine knowing that you will have to leave that dog behind, in awful conditions.
To be 100% honest, I make sure to wear my camera whenever possible because I have the unfortunate habit of leaving my electronics on all modes of public transportation. Down the beach it continued to make its way past other people and even dogs, though I hope for its sake it eventually took wing – it was a very long line of hotels.
The trails may have been buzzing with joggers, dog-walkers, and bikers, but the water was empty. We did have to dodge joggers and dog-walkers as we lugged our boats up and over the land bridge, but they politely gave us our space and soon we had hit the water once more. As of June, COVID-19 had barely touched Tallahassee, FL.
As their name suggests, they are a rescue group that is devoted to Chinese Crested dogs. If you aren’t familiar with the breed, most of the “Ugliest Dogs in the World&# have been hairless Chinese Cresteds. We work within the framework of local and civil laws, in order to protect both dogs and all parties concerned.
The group I was with gathered in Ahmedebad (one of India’s mid-sized cities with only 8 million residents) to be transported by bus out to the conference site in Kutch. The default starling of urban areas in this corner of India are these remarkable rosys.
To safely move or transport an injured dog, get somebody to help you. For a small dog, put it into its carrier (remove the top for easy and safe access to the carrier; don’t push an injured dog through the small door or opening), or use a suitable container such as a strong cardboard box.
Transporters , again as it says on the tin! The decision will always ultimately lie with the rescue though. Move animals from pound to rescue/rescue to foster home/vets etc. We also help find forever homes for these animals.
Following is a telepathic conversation I experienced while transportingdogs to a rescue. One day about 10 years ago, I was in the process of transporting quite a few dogs to a rescue from a high kill shelter.
The Honest Kitchen has offered a great package of treats for the dog owner who cares about the planet and the health of their pet! All packaging elements are produced in North America to prevent reliance on excessive transportation, which in turn helps reduce carbon emissions.Virgin materials have been eliminated whenever possible.
You will need a sturdy crate for transport, scratching post, climbing tree, litter box, food and water bowls and a breakaway collar with an ID tag. Cats, particularly when acquired as kittens, can be taught to get along happily with a wide variety of other companion animals, including birds and dogs. Keep your kitten indoors.
The day before, the day I arrived, was a transport day, and that meant the pack hadn’t been seen in the afternoon. And the morning before the Mkuze pack of Painted Wolves, or African Wild Dogs, had been very close to one of the park’s few Lions, as far as tracking collars had told. Her concern was well founded.
When I agreed to read and review Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson's THE DOG WHO COULDN'T STOP LOVING (Harper 2010), the regal Charles Hobson Booger, III was still with us. He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. And the crying would never stop.
Well, this time next week I’ll be winging my way to Cape Town via Auckland and Singapore (air transport is weird sometimes), so this is my last beat post of the year. The African Wild Dog. I imagine this will be the one that comes off next after the African Wild Dog. Image of an African Wild Dog by Charles J Sharp (CC).
Bird brought in by a cat or dog. Call and transport the bird to a bird rehabber ASAP. Even if you do not see an obvious wound, cat or dog saliva, which is full of nasty bacteria, can still get into a bird’s eyes/orifices and will eventually kill the bird; it will just die more slowly and painfully. *Emergency!
They took dogs to Australia, chickens across the Pacific, rabbits to England, horses to the New World, and then brought potatoes back. Part of the world they wanted to transport was natural. In many ways, that is exactly what happened. People have moved useful plants and animals around with them as long as they had the wit to do so.
And you’ve posted a link to a petition to an airline to ask them to stop transporting trophies. And because they are lions they don’t like other large predators, and so now there are less hyenas and leopards and the African Wild Dogs only hunt in a few areas not favoured by the lions. And that lions are really cute.
On a very quiet night during a lull in the drama of the ducks, I was researching the Greyhound racing industry, and seething over its treatment of dogs as well as the support it often gets, through subsidies, to help it survive. And you can’t drive on the Interstate without seeing signs telling you when to exit for the “Dog Track.”
It has been a humbling 17 days as I walk the dogs early, shower, and get gussied up to sit in traffic for 1.5 hours on I-95 (we here in South Florida are known for our very limited public transportation options--boy do I miss NYC). Imagine if kids in 4-H were taught how to raise dogs for dogfighting (not a perfect analogy, I know).
A brief look at the public outcry concerning Michael Vick’s dog-fighting ring shows just how widely accepted premise (1) is. Causing an animal to suffer for no good reason is cruel, and our ordinary commonsense morality tells us in no uncertain terms that cruelty is wrong. Animal abuse is a crime in all fifty states, and rightly so.
