To be 100% honest, I make sure to wear my camera whenever possible because I have the unfortunate habit of leaving my electronics on all modes of public transportation. Down the beach it continued to make its way past other people and even dogs, though I hope for its sake it eventually took wing – it was a very long line of hotels.

The trails may have been buzzing with joggers, dog-walkers, and bikers, but the water was empty. We did have to dodge joggers and dog-walkers as we lugged our boats up and over the land bridge, but they politely gave us our space and soon we had hit the water once more. As of June, COVID-19 had barely touched Tallahassee, FL.

If you aren’t familiar with the breed, most of the “Ugliest Dogs in the World&# have been hairless Chinese Cresteds. We work within the framework of local and civil laws, in order to protect both dogs and all parties concerned.

To safely move or transport an injured dog, get somebody to help you. For a small dog, put it into its carrier (remove the top for easy and safe access to the carrier; don’t push an injured dog through the small door or opening), or use a suitable container such as a strong cardboard box.

You will need a sturdy crate for transport, scratching post, climbing tree, litter box, food and water bowls and a breakaway collar with an ID tag. Cats, particularly when acquired as kittens, can be taught to get along happily with a wide variety of other companion animals, including birds and dogs. Keep your kitten indoors.

The day before, the day I arrived, was a transport day, and that meant the pack hadn’t been seen in the afternoon. And the morning before the Mkuze pack of Painted Wolves, or African Wild Dogs, had been very close to one of the park’s few Lions, as far as tracking collars had told. Her concern was well founded.

When I agreed to read and review Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson's THE DOG WHO COULDN'T STOP LOVING (Harper 2010), the regal Charles Hobson Booger, III was still with us. He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. And the crying would never stop.

Bird brought in by a cat or dog. Call and transport the bird to a bird rehabber ASAP. Even if you do not see an obvious wound, cat or dog saliva, which is full of nasty bacteria, can still get into a bird’s eyes/orifices and will eventually kill the bird; it will just die more slowly and painfully. *Emergency!

In many ways, that is exactly what happened. People have moved useful plants and animals around with them as long as they had the wit to do so.

And because they are lions they don’t like other large predators, and so now there are less hyenas and leopards and the African Wild Dogs only hunt in a few areas not favoured by the lions. And that lions are really cute.

On a very quiet night during a lull in the drama of the ducks, I was researching the Greyhound racing industry, and seething over its treatment of dogs as well as the support it often gets, through subsidies, to help it survive. And you can’t drive on the Interstate without seeing signs telling you when to exit for the “Dog Track.”

It has been a humbling 17 days as I walk the dogs early, shower, and get gussied up to sit in traffic for 1.5 hours on I-95 (we here in South Florida are known for our very limited public transportation options--boy do I miss NYC). Imagine if kids in 4-H were taught how to raise dogs for dogfighting (not a perfect analogy, I know).
