All of these things can be found in Las Vegas, Nevada. He steered me right and there it was, my first life bird in Nevada! In the meantime we were enjoying looks at waterfowl like Ruddy Ducks , Eared Grebes , and Redheads , as well as a couple of Lesser Scaup. Later in the season more species show up. Sewage ponds.

My best bird of the year is based on the sighting rather than the species. This ABA Code 4 bird was found hanging out with some Wood Ducks in Missoula, conveniently enough, by Radd Icenoggle. Only trouble is, which of the seven species I saw this year do I pick? Rock Warbler by Clare Morton. Redgannet picked a real stunner.

One or two Tufted Ducks show up at Lake Merritt in Oakland every year, with this drake in particular often lending itself for soul-satisfying views. The lake is a great place in winter for seeing grebes and diving ducks close up, and can offer some good gulling as well. Lake Merritt, Oakland, CA. Arcata, CA. Northwestern California.

In June, the 2018-2019 Federal Duck Stamp was released. Birders have been encouraged by the American Birding Association and others to buy Federal Duck Stamps. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has published a list of NWRs that have been created or expanded with Duck Stamp funds. Senators, and two U.S. Representatives.
