On our last visit to the grasslands of Manas we saw not one but two endangered Bengal Floricans in fifteen minutes, with a Pied Falconet thrown in for good measure! Commoner species include Bar-headed Geese , parakeets, shrikes, mynas and minivets. We will travel on to the great Thar Desert, a place of immense beauty and peace.

Raptors and other predatory birds have largely rebounded, and there seems to be be no shortage of Brown Pelicans, Peregrine Falcons and Bald Eagles. It’s important to take note that all of these species have benefited tremendously from being listed under the Endangered Species Act. That would have been awful.

Fish and Wildlife Service is down-listing the wood stork from endangered to threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The wood stork was listed as endangered in 1984, because the Florida population was dropping at an approximate rate of 5 percent per year.
