Peregrine Falcons frequent the sheer rock faces of Tennessee Valley. Carrizo Plain harbors shrikes, meadowlarks, eagles, falcons, etc… oh, and flowers. Red-tailed Hawks often hunt through dusk in San Francisco. I imagine them beaming through this shortcut too. Many, many, many flowers.
The only ones that concerned me were Ravens, Falcons, Seahawks, Cardinals, and Eagles. Were there any birds about this weekend? Welcome back, NFL football! Of course I still kept my eyes out for other types of birds. This time of year is perfect for finding juvenile Eastern Bluebirds , which I was happy to do.

This endearing ground squirrel is the preferred prey of a resident pair of Imperial Eagles … Within twenty minutes, a Goshawk, a Black Kite and two Honey Buzzards passed over. Since you won’t be seeing any cardinals, eagles, falcons, ravens, or seahawks in the Super Bowl this weekend, you’ll have to search for them outdoors instead. Maybe we’ll all score looks at a Superb Owl or two. Hopefully some birds show up this time!
When discussing this topic for local media, I often say that because of their White-tailed Eagles , the Scottish island of Mull makes 2 million pounds per year from birders alone. There is another raptor over the ridge, light body and wings, dark head and chest – the Short-toed snake Eagle. Now I break (and think that I should put a „I break for birds“ bumper sticker), bins… a falcon! An Eleonora’s Falcon , light morph, makes several circles above the Olive grove and it is gone.
The raptors exceeded expectations in both quantity and quality, with lots of vultures, eagles, and a magnificent Beaudouin’s Snake-Eagle. Beaudouin’s Snake-Eagle … wow!!
