In 2010, a joint expedition by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and the Sudanese Wildlife Society (SWS) found a further 17 electrocuted Egyptian Vultures. Reasons for this situation are numerous. Up to now there have been almost 80 confirmed electrocuted Egyptian Vultures in that area.

She has a captive-bred education bird named Xena, a Eurasian Eagle Owl. We would close the flight around 10 PM to protect them from predators, then we’d get up at four in the morning to open the door again. The American Bird Conservancy (ABC) and Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO) recently filed a lawsuit against the federal government arguing that a planned wind turbine near the famed birding hotspot of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge is illegal. There are nesting Bald Eagles in the area as well.

Illegal spring hunting and round-ups of moulting birds are taking place on the Russian breeding grounds and illegal shooting continues in Norway. The Common Pochard is not just a scarce breeding bird, but the second most numerous wintering duck in Serbia and it will be a hard battle to protect it against the strong hunting lobby.

The only wildcat I found was illegally killed by hunters during closed season. Photographed within Beljarica: five White-tailed Eagles by Snezana Panjkovic. Two hundred metres further on, two young White-tailed Eagles were soaring. Yet, the primary job of Beljarica is not to support eagles and otters, but to control the floods.
