At auction, I made an impulsive vehicle purchase that I soon regretted. The sweet pickup truck was intended for my 16-year-old son. Patiently, my wife explained that her son would never be safe in that truck, and that I was a fool. I got caught up in the heat of the auction, was my poor excuse. Swallowing my pride and admitting idiocy was far less painful than paying to rectify the deal.

Usually, writing my posts for 10,000 Birds follows a rigorous process. First, I just write down whatever comes to mind. Fortunately, this always justifies including my favorite photos on the subject – I tend to be quite lucky in that respect. Next, I see how the post looks in the preview. Then, there is a final editing step.

For some collaborative posts, it seems to be difficult to find writers. For one on kingfishers, it is not. Unsurprising, given how spectacular many of them look. Pied Kingfisher I love colour in birds and kingfishers are a colourful lot. But, I find the Pied Kingfisher very natty in its black and white plumage.
