I wanted to share this email I received recently from the ASPCA. It concerns the Happy Act, which would be a great benefit for pet owners. Dear Animal Advocates, Introduced by Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, H.R. 3501—known as the Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (“HAPPY”) Act—is a federal bill that would reward responsible pet parents by allowing them to keep more money in their pockets come tax time.

The Factual table I posted yesterday annoyed me a bit, and here's why: the categories "vegan," "vegetarian," and "vegan-friendly." Vegan: Got it. I can order anything on the menu without having to ask any questions. Vegetarian : At least it doesn't say "vegetarian-friendly," as Ruths Chris Steakhouse is vegetarian-friendly in that you can probably get a baked potato with butter and sour cream, sauteed vegetables drizzled with cheese, and a salad with Ranch dressing at every one of them.

Even though it’s turning to fall in our neck of the woods, I have still noticed the ever annoying mosquito out and about. That is why I think that these are such a good idea! Second Acts is a non-profit fund raising organization that distributes 100% of all donations received to small, volunteer-run animal rescue groups nationwide that adopt a no-kill policy. We thought that this was a great idea, and even though they don’t rescue animal directly, their help in funding rescues that need help is going to go a long way to finding animals homes!

Worldwide Primates Inc. was started by Mathew Block to import primates into the US for animal experimentation. In 1993, he went to prison for smuggling baby orangutans. Despite this, it looks like this has been no barrier to his company getting federal contracts. This is a great story about how a therapy dog helped a boy overcome depression. Dogs, as well as other pets, have been shown to improve quality of life. A bomb threat was called into a Max Mara in Madrid. This comes weeks after an explosion in Mexico at a Max Mara shop there. Max Mara sells furs. I first read about Rescue Ink in Best Friends Magazine. They are a group of big tattoed guys that go around rescuing animals. Now they have their own show on National Geographic Channel. I'm just watching the fourth or fifth episode of the latest season of Top Chef. It just irritates the hell out of me. First of all, it highlights the deficiencies of today's chefs' training. Throughout the entire show, the judges and contestants always refer to their meats as the "protein." It's as though there is no other protein around. That's not true.

About a year ago I posted information about the launch of a new stem cell therapy for dogs ( Vet-Stem ). This therapy uses adult stem cells to help injured dogs and dogs suffering from arthritis. I am happy to bring you an update about the company, as the treatment is very promising for our dog companions! Since the launch Vet-Stem has treated more that 1800 dogs and more than 5,000 animals total.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was on hand when two leopards were released into the Caucasus. While I think the gesture is nice, it appears to be more of a publicity stunt to head off environmental criticism of the 2014 Olympic Games construction. Glorious animals, very beautiful," Putin, surrounded by International Olympic Committee members, told Berdymukhamedov by telephone as he stood by the cage in the Sochi national park.
