There is a great new book called Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats , featuring photographs of both dogs and cats. In reality, this is a book for the dog (and cat) lover! It’s not only humorous, but informational too, including some fun facts about both dogs and cats. The photos alone are worth looking at when you need a smile. The book is an amazing collaboration between New York Times best selling author Bradley Trevor Greive and award-winning photographer Rachael Hale.
Pretty heavy blow. US District Judge Emmet Sullivan signed the December 30 ruling in favor of Ringling's owner, Virginia-based Feld Entertainment Inc. (FEI) at the outset of a nine-year-old suit brought by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) that culminated in a six-week trial in March. The ASPCA, Born Free USA (Animal Protection Institute), Animal Welfare Institute, Fund for Animals along with former Ringling animal trainer Tom Rider had accused the circus of s
A couple of years ago I catalogued the dozens of excuses/rationalizations from well-meaning, compassionate people about why they eat animals, and all fell into one of six categories: It's what god wanted (and other versions, such as: That's why they were put on the earth. By god.). God thinks vegetarians are evil, and we want to please god. Not to be confused with #1, this one comes directly from The Bible.
And here we see the inevitable logic of Vegetarianism, if our belief in the Rights of Animals is ever to quit the stage of theory and enter the stage of fact; for just as there can be no human rights where there is slavery, so there can be no animal rights where there is eating of flesh. "To keep a man, slave or servant," says Edward Carpenter, "for your own advantage merely, to keep an animal that you may eat it, is a lie; you cannot look that man or animal in the face.
Baby the Maltese recently got the chance to try out two great coco based products from CocoTherapy , and she has some to share with two lucky readers! She loves it! We let her try a chip, and also tried rubbing a bit of the oil on her ears, which are often irritated. The coconut oil is the only thing that she will actually come over to us to put on her ear, and it doesn’t hurt that she can also like a little from our fingers!

" On Atheism and Veganism " created what was for the most part a respectful, interesting discussion that brought up a couple of items I'd like to clarify or explore. First off, I began the post with, "For me, atheism and veganism go hand-in-hand." I went on to explain why that is and my penultimate sentence was, "I see these counter-culture positions as parallel and based on the same evolution of thought and deconstruction of the stories of childhood.
Ugh. It's great that they were saved, but t hey arrived at the rescue center in wretched condition. Moon bears are rare, which makes this all the sadder. Please note that the illegal bile farm was Taiwanese-owned. Again, the China connection. I can't read such stuff without being sickened by my species. (Thank Animals Asia for the rescue. They are an amazing organization that we support financially.).

I received this from the Humane Society regarding a program to premiere January 25 on Animal Planet. It's the first episode ever of "Animal Planet Investigates: Dogfighting Exposed." Unfortunately, I don't get Animal Planet, but I'm pleased to see them running edgier programming. Many people may not think this is all that edgy, but I'm still happy to see it, especially when it's easy in television to stick with softball, happy shows.

I went to graduate school at the University of Washington here in Seattle. I've been hearing nightmare stories about the Primate Center for years. My husband and I disagree over PETA's effectiveness. I think this opinion piece does a good job arguing in favor of PETA. I think that they are effective and, while I don't always agree with them, we would sorely miss them if they disappeared from the animal rights community. They have an energy and edginess that is fundamental to the movement. They keep people on their toes.
