As a dairy farmer I even had a hard time reading that. I love my cows and I don't anyone touch them in that manner. SeaWorld animal care specialists are a little bleary-eyed this week as they provide 24-hour care for a weeks-old, baby manatee. Orphaned by her mother, the female calf arrived at the park’s rehabilitation center on July 24 after being rescued from the waters of Daytona Beach, Fla. Another fun toy from Think Geek! Baby sure loved the Bacon Bubble Buddy. It’s a fun toy for both dog and human. The bubbles fill a small reservoir in the blower, and then with a few pulls of the trigger, bacon flavored bubbles come out for your dog to catch. They are safe to eat, and though I didn’t try tasting one, they did smell like bacon!

Germany has been one of Europe’s strong economies, but things are changing for everyone. It began with the saddest story, as great ideas often do. Claudia Hollm saw a TV show about a family who had to relinquish their dog because of economic hardship. The family simply did not have enough money to feed their beloved dog and with breaking hearts they relinquished him to a shelter where he died shortly thereafter of a broken heart after being so loved by this family for many years.

Here's an opinion piece from Ingrid Newkirk arguing to stop the transfer of 202 "retired" chimpanzees to a Texas facility where they may be subjected to more experimentation. The Governor of New Mexico has already met with the National Institutes of Health to try and stop this transfer with no apparent success. Some of the animals are 60 years old and veterans of the US space program.

Really sad. The Spoon-billed Sandpiper, one of the world's most threatened birds, is rapidly heading towards extinction because young birds are being targeted for human consumption. Spoon-billed Sandpipers nest only in the far north-east of Russia. In 2000, around 1,000 breeding pairs were known, but by 2009, the number had plummeted to just 120-220 pairs, a decline of 88%.

I recently got a chance to read a book called Scent of the Missing: Love and Partnership with a Search-and-Rescue Dog. Wow, and wow. The book is an amazing and heartfelt look at the unique partnership and bond that search and rescue dogs have with their handlers. A very interesting, touching, at times funny, and overall a great read. The book follows the story of Susannah and her dog Puzzle.

Both species are endangered and it is illegal to cross breed them. From Focus Taiwan.
