A Little Neck-breaking Never Hurt

10,000 Birds

Tropical forests that are worlds away from comfortable feeder set-ups are notorious for making birders work for their sightings. Operating in the sphere of ecotourism, I understand the undeniable appeal of luxury birding – sipping coffee in flip-flops behind a tripod, binoculars within comfortable reach as multitudes of multicoloured birds descend upon the mossiest of perches at eye level to gorge on ripe bananas and papaya.

You Work with What You’ve Got

10,000 Birds

… And sometimes that’s a lot. Last week, I failed to produce a post, because I was getting ready to spend a week in Mexico’s tropical state of Tabasco. I am teaching for 25 hours in a Presbyterian Theological Seminary, as well as speaking at a Baptist church on Sunday, so there was lots of preparation involved. Because of the intensive work commitment here, I have not been able to go anywhere except the urban church and the grounds of the Seminary.

How to Use Personal Branding in Establishing Company Credibility

SalesFuel

I am descended from Michael Lonergan who landed in Philadelphia in 1856. I know this because my brother, Gary, diligently researched our ancestry and even purchased a facsimile of our family crest. This coat of arms had a prominent place in his law office which clients could reasonably associate with his personal brand. Interestingly, each color and symbol contained in our family crest has a specific meaning: Argent/white or silver denotes peace and sincerity.

More Winter Birding in Bonn

10,000 Birds

Winter birding in Bonn generally appears to be rather bleak, but I can’t really complain with the Wallcreeper that spent several weeks just outside the city. Now that this bird has seemingly moved on, I had to find other species to distract me, but fortunately that was not too hard. Adding to a post in January on birding in Bonn in winter , I have had the chance to get out on a few more birding walks here and there in the city on weekends.

Birding Hongbenghe, Yunnan (Part 1)

10,000 Birds

Hongbenghe is directly at the border to Myanmar – before COVID-19, it was easy enough to walk across the border on foot, but now a monstrous long steel and barbed-wire fence separates the two countries. Very appealing to tourists nostalgic for that iron curtain feeling. This is the home of the Rusty-naped Pitta , admittedly one of the less glamorous of the family, particularly the subspecies found in Yunnan, but still a nice sight and still a pitta.

Andalucia’s City-Slicker Falcons

10,000 Birds

Lesser Kestrels are one of those birds that have a special fascination for British birdwatchers. They are very rare birds in Britain, but have been recorded from Scilly in the south to Fair Isle in the north. They can be challenging to identify, especially if you haven’t seen one before, though with experience they are not really so difficult. Lesser Kestrel really is an appropriate name, for they are a lesser bird than the familiar Common Kestrel.
