Bird Irruptions

10,000 Birds

Recent reports coming out from the United Kingdom suggest a Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) irruption, although at a smaller scale than that of 2017 when it is estimated that 50,000 Hawfinches arrived there from the continent. Irruptions are generally attributed to good crop years in the breeding grounds contributing to a sharp increase in population size.
