For some collaborative posts, it seems to be difficult to find writers. For one on kingfishers, it is not. Unsurprising, given how spectacular many of them look. Pied Kingfisher I love colour in birds and kingfishers are a colourful lot. But, I find the Pied Kingfisher very natty in its black and white plumage.

Last year, the oldest Christmas Bird Count in Mexico turned 50 years old. That would be the CBC in San Blas, Nayarit, founded by American birders in 1973. We have a long ways to go before we reach that milestone in Michoacán. We held our very first CBC just three years ago, making a complete circuit around the beautiful Lake Pátzcuaro.

While the main reason to come to Tangkoko is to see birds at the Tangkoko Nature Reserve, it is also worth considering a shortish boat trip along the coast – even for people like me who do not particularly like boat trips. My trip started how many activities on Sulawesi seem to start – with waiting. We were at the beach, the booked boat was not.

As I mentioned in my September 4 blog, Rouge Park is on the easternmost edge of Toronto. It is an urban park and you can take public transportation to get there. But, the park is sprawling and driving there is a better option. Bobolink When my birding buddy and I figure it is quiet at our other favourite spots, we get my obliging husband to drive us up and around the Rouge.

At auction, I made an impulsive vehicle purchase that I soon regretted. The sweet pickup truck was intended for my 16-year-old son. Patiently, my wife explained that her son would never be safe in that truck, and that I was a fool. I got caught up in the heat of the auction, was my poor excuse.
