I’ve just returned from the Shetland Islands. You might be expecting me to start writing about the amazing colonies of Northern Gannets Morus bassanus or Atlantic Puffins Fratercula arctica , among others. But no, my story today is about the birds that come in to breed on the heather moorland which dominates the high ground. This is prime habitat for many birds and Shetland is a great place to see them in relatively pristine conditions.

Hi all, I am currently in Fiji and there is a lone male stray dog who has been really getting attacked by other male dogs in the area due to a female stray dog being in heat. He was fine a few days ago when I arrived at our hotel, and over the past few days has gotten attacked by other males relentlessly. The female seems to be here at the hotel consistently, as she's cared for here.

My male tom cat came home from outside with a limping paw and when I went to check on him, he lightly nipped at me and changed places. I went to check on him again after a while and he bit me. Only one of his teeth peirced the skin on my palm and it only bled a little. My cat is upto date with all his vaccinations and I was vaccinated with ARV in 2021 including human immunoglobulins.

Like could a dog just turn on their owner and try to kill them for no reason even if the owner has fostered them and loved them since birth and they were fully taken care of ?

We found a young pigeon in our garden last night but It didn't move at all. After a few hours it tried to fly away but crashed into the wall and hovered back down to the ground. It then landed on my basketball hoop so I left it for the night as it was late. The next morning (today) I went to check on it and it was still on the hoop it eventually came down.

Okay! So, I live in the basement at my mom’s house. My fiancé, my 3 month old daughter and I all live down here. My mom, sisters and her boyfriend have the upstairs. Upstairs gets really hot in the summer & when the heat is on. Downstairs either gets reallllly hot since our room is beside the furnace or it gets realllly cold because that’s the basement and the A/C is on.

So today we found this poor guy in the guarden our cat managed to catch him i guess then our dog took him from her. We tought he would be torn to shreds so we originally wanted to end his suffering but as we got a close look he seems to be "fine" safe for his weird neck and head scenario as seen in the pictures. He drinks water, eats, flaps his wings and walks altough he sometimes looses balance most probably due to his head (it looks as if it was put on the wrong way around) weirder y

Worried about rabid bats I went to my aunts house, and we had a cook out. When I was trying to get to my chair my back brushed up against on of the auguest lily plants. But it's like what if there was bat hanging out there and I didn't notice. What if nobody else was looking at the direction. Does this mean I'm f *d? My cat got attacked tonight but some wild animals and I'm not sure what. She doesn't have injuries luckily but she smells pretty strongly of something that smells like old human pee. I've done some searches online and haven't found anything so I thought it might be useful asking here I live in Northern New York in a rural area so it really could be about 100 different things I'm just curious what made this smell.

Reddit wont allow me to put a video so ill just describe it, it had 3 front legs on each side and also was using its round head to assist in movement, it also was kinda stumbling as it was every few minutes or so falling on its back, yet it didnt seem to be injured no holes where the backlegs would be. I really just want an idea on what it was.

(Original post included a video but I can’t add it in this community) This is Archie. He’s a 7 year old rescue kitty and I’ve had him for a little over a month. He was in a violent attack and has a scar on his neck from the surgery that saved him. Hes a super sweet boy and I haven’t had any problems with him except that I’ve been noticing that under his chin is a little dark almost like he’s been rubbing his face in poop.

Norway rats leave the nest before they're full grown and go through a stage where they're mouse sized but out living somewhat or fully independently. At this age, they're easily confused with mice. Just wondering, if I see something mouse-sized out foraging in an urban area in the afternoon or evening, is it more likely to be a mouse or a young rat?

Was at the park in a city in Africa where monkeys (Sykes?) and humans both hang out. I Gave out a bunch of small nut bags, where they would proceed to open It themselves. I had one bag left and while I was standing with it, one monkey jumped on me and forcefully took it out of my hand. In the process it left a small scratch on my hand near my knuckles.

If you think about it, cows are big, bulky and slow. They do not have any defence against fast and agile predator shuch as a Cheetah, Tigers, etc. They arent even smart. They are basically a big food storage for other animals. Yet it seems there is some evolutionary reason they exist. I am really curious.
