Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida

10,000 Birds

Dry Tortugas approximately 100 years ago. Sooties, noddies, and where to find them. As the Caribbean’s emerald waters fell away below our seaplane, I had no idea what to expect from my visit to the Dry Tortugas, 70 miles west of Key West, Florida. Armed with binocs and my trusty green Audubon’s, the only pre-mobile Internet info I had on my destination was…’tortugas’ is Spanish for turtles; the doctor who set John Wilkes Booth’s broken leg was imprisoned at Fort Jefferson; you

Building Your Own Online University

Sales and Marketing Management

Author: Dan Seidman Ten thousand baby boomers turn 65 every day. This is why a start-up company hired me to build their training department. The firm was targeting the senior market by offering solutions to keep these older people safe in their own homes rather than empty bank accounts to move into senior housing. I could relate, as I just had two elderly parents move into assisted living at a cost of $8,700 a month.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of June 2018)

10,000 Birds

Most of us know all too well the bittersweet mood returning from a birding trip evokes. On the one hand, a successful adventure results in rich memories, accumulated wisdom, and—if you did it right—plenty of lifers. On the other hand, you have all those photos to process and lists to sort. Actually, even those parts of a birding trip can be sweet. Time to plan the next one!

For the Birds: Midway Atoll Mouse Eradication and NEPA

10,000 Birds

The Northwestern Hawaiian Islands are home to some of the largest assemblages of breeding seabirds in the United States. These remote islands, some more than 1,000 miles from Honolulu, are home to huge globally-significant colonies of Laysan and Black-footed Albatross, among many others. Many of these islands are part of the Hawaiian Islands National Wildlife Refuge and one of the most important areas is Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge.

Brewery Ommegang: Short Sleeve Saison

10,000 Birds

Brewery Ommegang of Cooperstown, New York has long been one of my favorite breweries. Over the past two decades – the brewery celebrated its twentieth anniversary just last year – Ommegang has established and upheld a reputation for its exceptional interpretation of the venerable institutions of Belgian brewing – while throwing enough curveballs in the brewhouse (this is a baseball town, after all) to avoid being taken for granted as mere traditionalists.

Where Are You Birding This Third Weekend of June 2018?

10,000 Birds

Calendar spring is nearly at an end, but nature summer started a while ago. Most birders, attuned as they are to the rhythms of the natural world, probably noticed when migration ended and bird breeding began in their areas. Don’t give up yet, though: you’ll still find a few surprises out there if you’re willing to look. I’m still recovering from last week’s veritable banquet of birding in Honduras, which I’ll be writing about soon.

Why You Should Add Guest Posting To Your Marketing Strategy

Sales and Marketing Management

Author: Kostas Chiotis Guest blog posting is arguably the best method of inbound marketing that your team can employ. However, only 6 percent of marketers are using guest posting as the majority of their original content strategy. Considering the vast amount of marketers who are (rightfully) making content marketing a priority, it’s surprising to find that more businesses, particularly small businesses and startups, aren’t taking advantage of the guest posting benefits.

Impressive Highland Birding in Costa Rica at El Toucanet

10,000 Birds

As one might surmise, a “toucanet” is a small toucan. Although still large enough to be a menace to nesting birds, they aren’t as super sized as the “quintessential toucans”, the ones we see on cereal boxes and in advertising. Those would be species like the Keel-billed, White-throated, and Toco Toucans , the latter of which has become such an iconic rep. for its kind that even in Costa Rica, images of the Brazilian species have been used for marketing (much to the

The return of Pied Herons to Broome

10,000 Birds

Following on from our very wet start to 2018 it was no great surprise that we should encounter a Pied Heron around Broome on our return from our trip to more southern areas of Western Australia. We had in fact encountered a lone Pied Heron on September 6th 2017 close to Broome, but it did not remain at the ephemeral lake for even a day to enable other local bird watchers to observe it.
