On October 31, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) announced the publication of the 2023 AAHA Management of Allergic Skin Diseases in Dogs and Cats Guidelines intended to provide a systematic approach to identifying and treating allergic skin diseases in these animals.

I just pressed the wrong button when working on the post on September 28 (feel free to insert your own joke about premature something here). Of course, that means that the birds I saw on September 30 are now somewhere in blogpost limbo, not having appeared in the September post but also not legitimately belonging in the October one.

To help mitigate employee attrition and increase retention, Frederic Ouedraogo, PhD, an AVMA senior economist and associate director in the Veterinary Economics Division, suggested employers keep wages competitive while also accounting for inflation. He gave the presentation “Veterinary Businesses: The Market for Veterinary Services” at the annual AVMA Veterinary Business and Economic Forum, held virtually October 24-25.

By Martin Garwood Martin has been interested in birds from an early age and has traveled extensively in pursuit of different species. He has a particular passion for Swifts. He recently set up a charity, High Weald Swifts, to promote conservation in the UK of this now “red-listed” species. Martin spent his working life in primary education, was formerly a trustee of Kent Wildlife Trust, and as a keen wildlife photographer, completed a Masters’s degree in photography in 2015.

Dorian Anderson did a Big Year like no other; getting on his bicycle (a maroon Surly Disc Trucker) on January 1, 2014, he biked south, west, north, northeast, northwest, south, southeast, and a bit north, ending the year with 618 bird species observed, 17,830 miles biked, hundreds of miles walked, a few miles kayaked, over $48,000 raised for conservation, and many good stories.

David Tomlinson If you are American then you will no doubt know Perdix perdix as the Gray Partridge , an introduced game bird now widespread on the prairies of Canada and the northern states of the USA. Here in England it’s the Grey Partridge (subtle difference), but it’s often called the English Partridge, to differentiate it from our other, non-native, partridge, the Redleg, known to most shooting men as the French Partridge.
