'Snowy Owl in Queens, New York, 1 December 2013. The midwestern and northeastern United States, especially coastal regions and areas along the Great Lakes, is currently experiencing an invasion of Bubo scandiacus. Snowy Owls have been sighted as far south as North Carolina and some locations have as many as seven! Here in New York State Snowy Owls have been reported in more than ten counties, with most of those counties having birds being seen in multiple locations.

He wrote a column , not for Audubon, but for the Orlando Sentinal , in which he advocated the killing of feral cats instead of the use of trap-neuter-release.

'That flamingos and grebes are probably each others’ closest living relatives is one of the most surprising discoveries in higher-level avian systematics over the last 15 years. The diving, piscivorous grebes were usually grouped with loons. Long-legged, long-necked flamingos have over the years been grouped variously with storks, waterfowl, and the stilts and avocets.

Isla Isabel, a picturesque volcanic island situated 15 miles off Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit coast, is just such a place. The island is half a mile wide and about three-quarters of a mile in length. 'Well, this doesn’t seem to make much sense : The Port Authority doesn’t give a hoot about the lives of snowy owls. The agency that oversees the city’s airports has added the majestic snowy owl to the list of birds it kills to protect airplanes from bird strikes. The Port Authority’s “wildlife specialists” started exterminating the owls Saturday, killing three at JFK Airport with a shotgun, a Port Authority source said.
