I immensely enjoyed "EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED" (even on the big screen) and eagerly anticipated "EATING ANIMALS" by Jonathan Safran Foer. His writing is beautiful, though I do have to admit that I haven't seen "shit" and its variations so frequently in one printed piece in quite a while. Ever, in fact. The good news is that if you know someone who needs to be schooled on all of the sordid details of factory farming, and appreciates good writing, this is a great book.
Love soccer? Does your dog love it too? If so, then Little Fanaticos is the site for you! Just look at how adorable the soccer jersey for dogs looks on Baby the Maltese! I decided to look online for some information regarding the "Organic Free Range Eggs" that Trader Joe's, my favorite store, sells. Here is what their web site says. 6. A Note About Eggs At Trader Joe's we listen to what our customers tell us about the choices we give them. Thanks to their valued feedback, in 2005 we made an important change in our egg selection.
I wanted to share this email I received recently from the ASPCA. It concerns the Happy Act, which would be a great benefit for pet owners. Dear Animal Advocates, Introduced by Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, H.R. 3501—known as the Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (“HAPPY”) Act—is a federal bill that would reward responsible pet parents by allowing them to keep more money in their pockets come tax time.

I recently watched Earthlings and cried the whole way through. There has to be something I can do to reduce all of the suffering of the animals we use as food, I thought. And then I read THE CHINA STUDY and was shocked to learn how unhealthy the Standard American Diet is--even cow's milk, which I thought I should be having three servings of per day!
This is a little late, so I am sure they have grown by now, but just look at how adorable these little sea turtles are! I adore turtles, and am happy to know that SeaWorld Orlando saved these hatchlings from Hurricane Bill. The full story after the photo: SeaWorld Orlando Cares For Turtle Hatchlings – (August 24, 2009) – Aquarists at SeaWorld Orlando are providing round-the-clock care for three endangered loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings this week.

You may know Jose Valle of the International Organization for the Abolition of Animal Slavery, AnimalEquality. He recently wrote me: We are an abolitionist group and our approach is "Educate, Investigate & Liberate". We are currently doing an investigation on pig farms in Spain, including intensive and extensive/free-range farms (tho extensive ones are scarce since intensive ones are the majority in the industry).
Outside of Australia, the bilby is a little-known animal that occasionally draws comparisons to Star Wars’ Yoda character. This is a great reminder post from Kristen Sullivan, a writer on the FiLife website. We’ve all been there, looking at those puppy eyes, or into the eyes of any adorable pet we may fall for. Sometimes it’s hard to think about the future costs of owning a pet when you are falling in love with that little face! She offers some good things to think about.
I received this steadily for a month or two and still find it heartwarming. And for all of you naysayers, it was verified by Snopes. * In 2003, police in Warwickshire, England, opened a garden shed and found a whimpering, cowering dog. It had been locked in the shed and abandoned. It was dirty and malnourished, and had clearly been abused. In an act of kindness, the police took the dog, which was a Greyhound female, to the nearby Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, run by a man named Geoff
I got this email from the IFAW recently and had to post it. I can’t even imagine being in a position where my government was telling me to kill my dog, or have it beaten to death. This is truly horrible, and hopefully the IFAW will be able to help stop it with your help. Here is the letter: I’ve just received an urgent report that another city in China is planning a mass cull to slaughter any unregistered dogs, strays, and even registered family dogs that are over 14 inches (35cm) ta
Andrew from Good Honest Dollar had an excellent question. He asked whether cows, chickens, sheep and some of the other animals that we eat are usually treated and killed in a humane manner. It's a thoughtful question I wish more people would ask. The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. Here is my opinion.
If you get an email that someone has been evicted from their home and desperately has to find homes for their beloved labs Cookie and Coco, don't hop on your computer and contact everyone you know. It's a hoax. How do I know? Let me tell you my short tale. Yesterday my boss told me that he'd forwarded an email to me about an evicted couple that was trying to find a home for their two labs Cookie and Coco who were totally attached to each other.
The following is a great guest post from the folks at Pet Care Education! Good tips for the coming cold season. PREPARING YOUR PET FOR WINTER. There are researchers out there who say that they do. I certainly think they can laugh and have fun. I've seen it. And the link below takes you to an article with the cutest orangutan baby enjoying himself. From Cosmiclog at MSNBC. How do you graph the evolution of a laugh? Researchers tickled babies and six different kinds of apes, quantified their giggles, and found that the patterns fit a classic evolutionary tree.
The Factual table I posted yesterday annoyed me a bit, and here's why: the categories "vegan," "vegetarian," and "vegan-friendly." Vegan: Got it. I can order anything on the menu without having to ask any questions. Vegetarian : At least it doesn't say "vegetarian-friendly," as Ruths Chris Steakhouse is vegetarian-friendly in that you can probably get a baked potato with butter and sour cream, sauteed vegetables drizzled with cheese, and a salad with Ranch dressing at every one of them.
Other than being a vegan, the most important actions you can take to help animals who are used for food are: Give generously to organizations that help those sentient nonhumans directly, such as Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary , Maple Farm Sanctuary , Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary and Eastern Shore Sanctuary. Encourage others to go vegan by educating them about the issues, and particularly about why we should not accept alternatives to eating animals that include eating animals (i.e., if they are "f
