Baby Eurasian Wrens

Eurasian Wrens are very common in forests throughout Germany. Maybe, just maybe, this bad morning before the first cup of coffe feeling is an aura that surrounds the Wren from the moment it peeks out of its egg shell. Clearly, the “Eurasian” wren came off worst, with the most boring of names imaginable.

Birding Yibin, Sichuan

Yibin is a typical smallish Chinese city (which in China means slightly above 850,000 people in the metro area, which would make it the fifth-biggest city in Germany but does not get it into the top 100 in China). In one group, they added a blue egg to their nests. In the other, they added both such an egg and a peanut half-shell.

But the Kentish Plover was sheltering its young under its body, and the Little Ringed Plover was incubating an egg — right in the middle of downtown Madrid! Plus a few truly difficult species. But they were still Mandarin Ducks!
