Birding Yibin, Sichuan

Yibin is a typical smallish Chinese city (which in China means slightly above 850,000 people in the metro area, which would make it the fifth-biggest city in Germany but does not get it into the top 100 in China). The Latin species name alphonsiana refers to Prof. In other words: I was disappointed to only see the female at Yibin.

Baby Eurasian Wrens

Eurasian Wrens are very common in forests throughout Germany. Apparently, no one has ever made it very clear to the Wren that it is but 10 cm in length, Europe’s smallest species after the two Kinglets, at 9 cm each. Clearly, the “Eurasian” wren came off worst, with the most boring of names imaginable.
