The local Bald Eagles are getting busy, I suspect there is an egg in the nest. The new rankings will be used in a major conservation initiative called the Edge of Existence program at the London Zoo. All I see are their buts. I’ve seen some interesting terns, and it is possible that I saw a small flock of migrating Bonaparte’s Gulls.

It is a bit worrying that while the Basel Zoo is listed by Google as having a page on the Red-tailed Laughingthrush , that page itself does not seem to exist anymore, and the species is not listed among the inhabitants of the aviary of the zoo. His obituary was published in Nature. ” ( source ).

The species was bred at the zoo of Memphis, Tennesee ( source ). Similar to the (fortunately now gradually changing) situation among humans in China, these birds seem to prefer males over females. So, I can only give you the sanitized version of the joke, in which humans have been replaced by birds. I am sure Elvis liked it.

Wisdom is not charging people extra to see your reconstituted Jurassic Park style dinosaur zoo when all you’ve got is a barn full of chickens. The stunning head plumes of the Gray Crowned-Crane make it attractive to bird collectors and zoos; illegal collecting of wild birds is one of the reasons why this species is now considered Endangered. This plain used to be little affected by humans, being grazed by just a few cattle, goats and camels.

Another animal dies at the Calgary Zoo and more questions are being raised about their practices. I don't track zoos, but this seems like an unusually high number of casualties. In April 2009, unseasonably cold weather froze two whopping crane eggs. They were a part of the zoo’s breeding program for the rare birds.
