There’s a Bewick’s Wren in Our Garden

Today, the species has all but disappeared east of the Mississippi River and has declined in western parts of its range, most likely caused by the expansion of the House Wren which destroys and removes their eggs from nest sites 1. A century ago, the Bewick’s Wren was beloved as the “house wren” of the Appalachians and the Midwest.

318 – Burrowing Owl , 16 May 2019: An unbelievable find and a thrilling chase, this bird at Big Egg Marsh was as as astonishing as it was unpredicted. Swallow-tailed Kite : I had a hard time deciding between this species and Mississippi Kite. And it was only one day after the shrike, which is always nice. (4 4 out of 5!).

Road Eagles

So, this pair (I assume there are two, though I only saw one today) of eagles has a territory including small dogs and stray children, baby coyotes, crows, but mainly squirrels and marmots right around its nest, and a major river backed up by a large dam about a mile or two away (the Mississippi) and several lakes.
