Aldea also received a National Wildlife Federation Certified Community Wildlife Habitat designation, so the community’s goal is not only to see how many nesting pairs we can count, but also to improve the habitat. But a Bewick’s Wren did build a nest, which it promptly abandoned before laying any eggs. Others had more luck.

Raised in and around the West Texas steppe country where temperatures reached 100 degrees with regularity, he began life as the Dust Bowl and Great Depression converged.

I haven’t even been to all of the best national wildlife refuges for birding. Bosque del Apache NWR in New Mexico. I particularly enjoy birding national wildlife refuges, so I try to include at least one on each trip. A direct flight from Portland is also a plus, as is seeing new parts of America.
