Feral cats are a huge problem in Australia and they do take a lot of the eggs. There are four pairs with eggs currently after the first pair lost their eggs, which they laid in the same location as last year. This pair laid a white egg last year on their second attempt in the exact same nest.

Time for the Flatback Turtle

Pied Oystercatcher breeding area-July to October Pied Oystercatcher sitting on eggs-July We are now at the time of year when Flatback Turtles come ashore to lay their eggs along our coastline and they usually do it during the night around high tide. Apparently the eggs were laid and she finally returned to the sea at 7pm.

The Pied Oystercatcher pairs are all in their breeding territories and we can expect to find eggs laid in the first week of July along the coast here. They are a lot more successful than the Pied Oystercatchers at breeding, but their eggs and chicks are somewhat smaller and appear to be less attractive to predators. Ruddy Turnstones.

Officials reported 48 marine mammals, mostly dolphins, and 87 dead sea turtles during the first two months alone. We documented the relocation of several turtle nests. The babies that hatched from these eggs were released on Florida’s east coast.

Sea Snakes of Northern Australia

Speaking of pregnant snakes, do sea snakes lay their eggs ashore like sea turtles or do they keep them internally until the young are ready to hatch/ be born, like some sharks? These do lay eggs on land and are (reasonably) mobile once they hit the beach. It seems like there is great diversity in this continent.
