Watching a Red-tailed Hawk nest

I’ve read that both parents will incubate the eggs, but I like to think that the female is more likely to be doing that. I saw her poking around in the nest which made me think she was turning the eggs. On 12 April, I watched him escort a pair of Turkey Vultures away from the nest. Also, he defended their territory.

Not just for the birds

If I had known that these Amanita caesareas smell pleasantly of eggs, I would have taken a sniff. My Laurelito trip was topped off by my discovery, when I walked back to my car, that it had been turned into a turkey perch. The variety of their shapes and colors demanded that I turn my camera earthward. Then I saw its shiny partner.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of March 2016)

While so many spent the weekend obsessing over eggs, others cast their eyes to the feathered fruit of eggs… not necessarily Easter eggs, but different, non-chicken eggs. I enjoyed observing Wild Turkeys , clearly feeling bolder on Easter than Thanksgiving, foraging openly along the Palisades Parkway.
