Lady, believed to be the oldest living Osprey in the United Kingdom, has laid her 62nd egg. It is her 22nd year nesting at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Loch of the Lowes reserve in Perthshire. Hat-tip to Redgannet.

Local farmers view it as a threat to domesticated wildlife. It didn’t occur to me till I started reading The Falcon Thief: A True Tale of Adventure, Treachery, and the Hunt for the Perfect Bird that there was also a possible threat to the eagle herself: poachers, who steal raptor eggs and chicks.

Best Bird of the Year 2012

This bird spent the 2011-2012 winter at Colusa National Wildlife Refuge in northern California, migrated someplace exotic and distant in February, and returned to the same pond at the beginning of this month. Red Junglefowl by Mike Bergin Clare Kines chose an egg as his Best Bird of the Year. And, no, I am not kidding.
