All the inhabited continents except Africa have experienced bird extinctions; however the 2012 update of the IUCN Red List shows a startling, but not altogether unexpected, trend in that more and more of our bird species are facing extinction. Here's someone else who agrees with me that sea lions are not the true threat to salmon. It's just easier to kill sea lions that to break down dams. Tags: salmon marine animals hydropower dams endangered species. I think this opinion is pretty wide-spread.

I've been reading a lot about threatened elephants and primate populations in Africa and wondered about lions. Kenya's lion population has dropped from an estimated 2,749 in 2002 to 2,280 in 2004 and probably just 2000 individuals in 2009. Tags: africa Kenya lion endangered species.

Sea lions are killed here for eating salmon. We all know that it's not the sea lions' fault that the salmon runs are either threatened or endangered. It's the humans' fault through overharvesting, the use of fish hatcheries, hydropower dams (like Bonneville) and the decimation of habitat. It really makes me angry.

First, rangers would show some animal dung and teach their guests how to identify it (big deal – it is going nowhere, nor hiding away) and then show, let’s say, a herd of antelopes to their left – only to use the time when no one is watching to print some lion spurs in the dust on the right hand side, so they would be nicely fresh for photographing.

There are some seven birds among the 100 most endangered species on the planet on the list of fauna and flora listed as the rarest by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Zoological Society of London – and this morning, I am after one of those! And the animals themselves? Acknowledgements and other pieces.

The use of wildlife for subsistence purposes by human populations should not be equated with their commercial consumptive use. Human development should not threaten the integrity of nature or the survival of other species.
