All the inhabited continents except Africa have experienced bird extinctions; however the 2012 update of the IUCN Red List shows a startling, but not altogether unexpected, trend in that more and more of our bird species are facing extinction. During 1990s, the South China Tiger became extinct in the wild (some still survive in zoos) and the number of extinct races reached four. A private zoo operator in Taiwan cross-bred lions and tigers, resulting in three "liger" cubs. Both species are endangered and it is illegal to cross breed them. Tags: zoos taiwan tigers lion endangered species. One died and the other two were seized for sheltering at a research institution.
