I like this opinion piece from the Christian Science Monitor which calls for an "Endangered Species Hour." It's in response to the pathetic CITES conference which basically screwed marine animal protection. But jobs that depend on harvesting endangered species will quickly disappear if those species are not protected.

It's easier to motivate people to save them as opposed to other species that are vital, but either boring or ugly. It's the same problem with marine life. Tags: marine life marine animals endangered species. People want to save the dolphins and the sea otters, but what about the bluefin tuna?

KING says one of the Nisqually casualties was a Steller sea lion, protected under the Endangered Species Act. The one found in West Seattle was a California sea lion, protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Investigators say they do not know who is responsible.
