The vet believed there was no way he could pass it, so the only options were risky, painful, long recovery-time surgery, or euthanasia. As for nice clothing … right! People who work with wildlife wearing nice clothes?

Animal welfare groups led by the Humane Society of the United States have agreed to abandon a fall ballot issue against animal cruelty as part of a deal with state farm groups brokered by Gov. I know many will disagree with me and say it's a cop-out, but I'll take what I can get. From the Associated Press.

Rescuing the Vick dogs was a controversial move by Best Friends and some animal groups, most notably PETA, did not agree with it. I'm a dues-paying member of both groups but, while I support euthanasia when it is CLEARLY an act of mercy, I come down pretty hard on Best Friends' side here.

This group is made up of rescues that are trained with American Sign Language and hand commands. I didn’t know this, but the Dalmatian Club of American mandates euthanasia of all deaf pups. Today we would like to introduce you to TN Safety Spotters ! They are then trained to become registered therapy dogs. How truly sad.

The town has become so overrun with dogs, that the government began offering a tax exemption of $17 per stray that was offered for euthanasia. That’s one dog for every two inhabitants, according to the BBC. Activists said what the government was doing qualified as “animal torture,” and they called for legislative reform.
